Tournament Organization
DuroMatch supports many kinds of tournaments across all supported sports. Tournaments may be organized at the league, city, regional, country, or international level, depending on the event and the administrators responsible for organizing it.
Well-organized tournaments create an enjoyable experience for everyone involved. DuroMatch provides the tools needed to organize competitive events, including tournament creation, participant invitations, seeding, bracket generation, match reporting, dispute resolution, and tournament administration.
Tournament Organizers coordinate the event from beginning to end, while Tournament Referees or other appointed officials may assist with overseeing matches and resolving tournament issues when appropriate.

Tournament Play Is Different
While league play gives members considerable flexibility in arranging matches, tournaments are organized events that require participants to follow a common schedule.
The Tournament Organizer coordinates the event by setting important dates, managing invitations, generating seeds and brackets, resolving organizational issues, and guiding the tournament through each stage until a winner is determined.
As a tournament participant, you should expect to:
- Respond to tournament invitations before the acceptance deadline.
- Follow tournament announcements and organizer instructions.
- Play your matches within the time allowed for each round.
- Report match results promptly after play.
- Respond quickly if confirmation or additional information is requested.
Many tournaments will proceed successfully even when the organizer is not physically present. DuroMatch provides the tools needed to keep the tournament moving, but participants play an important role by staying informed and completing each step on time.
The smoother every participant follows the tournament schedule, the more enjoyable the experience will be for everyone involved.
Receiving Tournament Invitations
Tournament participation begins with an invitation from the Tournament Organizer.
Depending on how the tournament is being organized, invitations may be generated automatically for eligible league members or sent individually by the organizer.
When you receive a tournament invitation, DuroMatch will notify you. The notification includes a link to your Tournament Invitations page, where you can review the invitation and decide whether to participate.
Before accepting an invitation, review details such as:
- Tournament format
- Match format and scoring rules
- Entry requirements
- Invitation acceptance deadline
- Tournament start and end dates
- Round timing rules
- Additional organizer notes
Accepting an invitation confirms your intention to participate and adds you to the list of accepted entrants.
Things to Know
- Tournament invitations are accessed through the notification you receive.
- Invitations remain available until you accept them or until the organizer withdraws the invitation.
- Accepting an invitation indicates that you intend to participate for the duration of the tournament whenever reasonably possible.
- Tournament organizers rely on timely responses so they can finalize the list of entrants and begin the tournament on schedule.
Accepting a Tournament Invitation
Open the notification announcing your tournament invitation and follow the link to your Tournament Invitations page.
After reviewing the tournament information, you may choose to accept the invitation. Once accepted, your participation is recorded and you become one of the tournament's confirmed entrants.
If you do not wish to participate, no action is required. The invitation will remain available until it is withdrawn by the organizer or until the tournament progresses beyond the invitation stage.
Things to Know
- Accept an invitation only if you reasonably expect to complete the tournament.
- Tournament organizers may continue inviting additional eligible players while preparing the tournament.
- Once tournament seeding and bracket generation begin, tournament participation is finalized and no additional entrants can be added.
I've Accepted. What Happens Now?
Once you have accepted the invitation, a link to the tournament will appear in the My Tournaments section of your Dashboard.
You can visit this page at any time, even before the tournament officially begins, to follow the tournament's progress. As the Tournament Organizer prepares the event, you may see tournament information updated, seeding completed, and brackets or schedules generated.
Once the tournament is ready to begin, the Tournament page becomes your central place for following the event. From there you can view tournament details, see your upcoming matches, follow your progress through the tournament, report and confirm match results, and track the tournament until a champion is crowned.
Tournament Seeding and Bracket Generation
After the invitation stage has ended, the Tournament Organizer prepares the tournament for play.
Depending on the tournament format, accepted entrants are assigned tournament seeds and then placed into the tournament bracket or schedule. Seeding helps determine initial matchups and is intended to create a fair and well-balanced competition.
Once bracket generation is complete, participants can view the tournament structure and see who they will play, or who they may face as the tournament progresses.
At this point, the tournament officially moves from preparation into active competition.
Things to Know
- Tournament brackets are generated only after the organizer has finalized the list of accepted participants.
- Once tournament seeding and bracket generation begin, tournament participation is finalized and no additional entrants can be added.
- Depending on the tournament format, some entrants may receive a first-round bye when the number of participants does not evenly fit the bracket.
- Future opponents are determined by match results as the tournament progresses.
Tournament Formats
DuroMatch supports several tournament formats. The Tournament Organizer chooses the format that best suits the event before invitations are sent.
Single Elimination
In a Single Elimination tournament, a player or team is eliminated after losing one match. Winners advance through successive rounds until a tournament champion is determined.
Round Robin
In a Round Robin tournament, every participant plays against each of the other participants. Final standings are determined using the tournament's scoring system and any applicable tie-breaking rules.
Round Robin with Knockout Stage
This format begins with Round Robin play. After all scheduled matches have been completed, the highest-ranked participants advance to a knockout bracket where the tournament champion is determined.
The number of participants advancing to the knockout stage is determined by the Tournament Organizer when the tournament is created.
Things to Know
- The tournament format cannot be changed after play has begun.
- Some tournaments may include byes when needed to create a balanced elimination bracket.
- The Tournament page displays the current bracket or standings appropriate for the tournament format.
Playing Tournament Matches
Once the tournament begins, your next scheduled match will appear on the Tournament page.
Unlike league play, tournament matches are played as part of a coordinated event. While participants are still expected to communicate with one another and cooperate in arranging their matches, they should also follow the Tournament Organizer's schedule and instructions to help keep the event moving smoothly.
Depending on the tournament, the organizer may establish deadlines for each round, designate match locations, reserve courts, or announce other tournament-specific arrangements. Participants should check the Tournament page regularly for updates and organizer announcements.
After your match has been played, one participant reports the result through DuroMatch. The opposing participant then confirms the reported result before the tournament advances to the next stage.
Things to Know
- Stay aware of organizer announcements throughout the tournament.
- Complete your matches within the time allowed for each round whenever possible.
- Communicate promptly with your opponent if scheduling issues arise.
- Report match results as soon as practical after the match has been completed.
- Tournament progress depends on participants completing and confirming their matches in a timely manner.
Reporting Tournament Match Results
After your tournament match has been completed, one participant reports the result through DuroMatch.
The report records the outcome of the match and, when applicable, the match score. The reported result is then sent to the opposing participant for confirmation.
Tournament matches are not considered complete until the reported result has been confirmed or otherwise resolved.
Things to Know
- Either participant may report the match result.
- Only one participant should report the result.
- The opposing participant must confirm the reported result before the tournament can advance normally.
- If the tournament format requires match scores, they must be entered when reporting the result.
- Report results as soon as practical after the match has been completed to help keep the tournament moving.
Confirming Tournament Match Results
After a match result has been reported, the opposing participant is asked to review it.
If the reported result is correct, confirm it through DuroMatch. Once confirmed, the tournament bracket or standings are updated automatically, and any affected future matches become available.
If you believe the reported result is incorrect, do not confirm it. Instead, open a tournament dispute so the issue can be reviewed before the tournament continues.
Things to Know
- The participant who reported the result cannot also confirm it.
- Confirm results promptly after reviewing them.
- Tournament progression may depend on your confirmation.
- If you disagree with the reported result, open a dispute rather than confirming an incorrect outcome.
Tournament Disputes
Most tournament matches are completed without difficulty. Occasionally, however, participants may disagree about a reported result or encounter another issue that prevents the match from being completed normally.
When this happens, DuroMatch allows participants to open a tournament dispute. Opening a dispute temporarily pauses progression of the affected match until the issue has been reviewed and resolved.
The Tournament Organizer or the appropriate tournament official will review the available information, consider comments provided by the participants, and make a decision based on the tournament rules and the information available.
Once a decision has been made, the tournament proceeds normally.
Things to Know
- Open a dispute only when a genuine issue cannot be resolved between the participants.
- Provide clear and accurate information when describing the problem.
- Continue to monitor the Tournament page and your notifications while the dispute is being reviewed.
- Tournament officials may request additional information before reaching a decision.
- Once a dispute has been resolved, the tournament continues using the official decision.
Tournament Completion and Final Standings
As tournament matches are completed and confirmed, DuroMatch automatically advances participants through the bracket or updates the tournament standings, depending on the tournament format.
When the final match has been completed, the Tournament Organizer finalizes the tournament and DuroMatch records the official results.
Participants can view the completed tournament bracket or final standings at any time from the Tournament page.
